The Rhodene Marches
A Brief Note About Magic Item Crafting
Magic item crafting is largely unchanged from the rules outlined in the Core Rulebook, with one exception; in order to count as being able to cast a spell for the purposes of meeting item prerequisites, you must be able to cast it successfully (via either Drain or Control checks) while taking 10.

Dreed Emeralds (called Starlight Stones by some), are a potent source of raw magic, helping spellcasters channel potentially cosmic levels of power. The more ordinary sized gems can be used to supplement day to day spellcasting. Each emerald has a number of drain points dependent on its size, as shown on the table below. As a swift action, a spellcaster can tap into an emerald while casting; the resultant drain of the spell is applied to the emerald instead of the caster.
If the drain is not fully absorbed by the emerald, any leftover drain is applied to the caster as normal, as well as reducing the maximum capacity of the emerald; an emerald reduced to 0 maximum capacity is burned out, worthless. Any spell cast with a base drain that would be completely absorbed by the emerald gains a +5 to Drain and Control checks. An emerald regains a number of drain points equal to the carats of its size per day.
